Wild Castle, a retro 2D platformer, launched on Steam as a free game in June 2019. However, it won't remain a free-to-play title for long. Per the latest announcement from the developer, it's about to transition to a pay-to-play model, and after this change, this current freebie will cost $1.
In the announcement, the developer notes that this change will help cover the expenses of future developments planned for Wild Castle. Speaking of what's planned for the future of this currently free game, the developer has promised new content, more features, and "exciting" updates.
Regarding the game itself, Wild Castle is a retro 2D platformer tailored for the fans of the classic Game Boy and NES games. It has a total of 15 levels; in each, players need to face challenging obstacles. The controls of the game are easy, but with progression, navigating through the platforming obstacles can become a bit challenging.
Another notable aspect of the game is its replay value. Each level has a score bar, which encourages players to replay to gain a higher score than before. Wild Castle also has a retro-inspired soundtrack and sound effects, matching the retro visuals of the game well.
This currently free game on Steam has a "Positive" rating with 30 player reviews, and it features the Steam Deck "Verified" compatibility rating. You can learn more about Wild Castle from the video attached below.
