Players celebrate Yakuza games for their compelling storylines and varied gameplay. However, without attention, the older titles can be frustrating to play on today’s PCs and consoles. Following the debut of modernized versions of Yakuza and Yakuza 2, Yakuza Kiwami 3 may arrive soon. A fan discovered a now-deleted reference to the title on the RGG Studios website.
With Yakuza Kiwami 2 released on the PS4 in 2018, gamers have long anticipated a remake for its follow-up. In 2024, RGG Director and Executive Producer Masayoshi Yokoyama hinted that the developer would soon satisfy players. More recently, an August Steam sale excluded Yakuza 3, suggesting that an improved version was on the way.
Some fans may argue that Yakuza Kiwami 3 isn’t necessary. Yakuza 3 Remastered launched on the PS4 in 2019, and on other systems a few years later. Still, while the game reintroduced content missing from the 2009 western title, it didn’t address other complaints.
Why Yakuza Kiwami 3 is requested
Although the third Yakuza game had an engaging narrative, many players found its combat frustrating. It was already challenging to land blows on enemies, but the higher frame rate made timing attacks even more difficult. Animations remained janky, while the remaster lacked conveniences like an autosave feature.
Yakuza Kiwami 1 and Yakuza Kiwami 2 offered significantly enhanced graphics and made battles smoother. Also, a new camera system provided players with more control when navigating the detailed Japanese settings.
If the new rumor proves significant, there are multiple opportunities to announce Yakuza Kiwami 3. The September 25th Tokyo Game Show seems like the obvious place for Sega to share the news. On the other hand, an RGG Summit is planned for September 24th, where the developer may preview its latest projects.
