Gamers already know that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will debut on the Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S this winter. However, Square Enix may release the next component of the remake trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, soon after. Dependable leaker NateTheHate2 claims that the RPG will ship on both systems in 2026.
NateTheHate2 was responding to Reddit speculation about a rumored imminent Nintendo Direct. Square Enix may give a first look at Rebirth, but the focus would be on Remake Intergrade. Nevertheless, the insider doesn't expect a large gap between release dates.
In May, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi suggested that all three remakes would come to the Nintendo handheld. He explained that improved Nintendo Switch 2 specs allow the developers to create a faithful port. Still, Rebirth may require more optimization to avoid performance hiccups.
How the Final Fantasy 7 remakes have different demands
Already available on the PS5 and PC, the middle entry in the Final Fantasy 7 remake series features open-world areas. By contrast, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade confines more gameplay to buildings in Midgar. NateTheHate2 believes Square Enix could employ DLSS upscaling to boost frame rates.
An Xbox Series X port for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth shouldn't pose as significant a technical challenge. That said, Final Fantasy 16 players noticed some discrepancies between Xbox and PS5 versions. Frame rates were acceptable on Microsoft's console, but some gamers complained about a lack of detail. Xbox Series S owners can expect even more downgrades on that system.
Fans also may not have to wait much longer for a Final Fantasy Remake Part 3 release date. Director Tetsuya Nomura recently hinted that Square Enix may make a major announcement shortly. With signs that development is at an advanced stage, gamers have their eyes on The Tokyo Game Show on September 25th. Even with its multiplatform strategy, Square Enix will likely launch the final remake as a PS5 exclusive.
