In a recent livestream dedicated to Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis, Square Enix director Tetsuya Nomura offered reassuring updates on Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, alongside Kingdom Hearts 4, which has not received an update for over three years.
Nomura, who has played a central role in the development of both franchises, confirmed that development for Kingdom Hearts 4 and Final Fantasy Remake Part 3 is progressing smoothly and remains on track, amid concerns of delays.
The livestream was focused on Ever Crisis, but became a platform for discussion for these two brief revelations, which were translated and shared by user Aitaikimochi on X.
Regarding Final Fantasy Remake Part 3, Nomura stated that Square Enix has already selected a date for the game’s announcement. He highlighted earlier comments from colleague Toriyama, who had previously hinted that the game’s announcement might arrive around the second anniversary of Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis, which debuted on September 7, 2023.
Nomura said (as translated):
“So, regarding Final Fantasy Remake Part 3, you see, Toriyama supposedly said we will have news around the time of the second anniversary of Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. We are making great progress on the game, and I can’t say anything else.We have already decided when we will make the announcement as well, and we will stick to that time schedule. So, don’t worry, but please wait for it.”
According to reports, as early as 2024, the trilogy’s release timeline suggests a potential late 2028 release, though Nomura’s statements suggest that the game might make it to PlayStation consoles sooner than expected.
Nomura also briefly talked about Kingdom Hearts 4, the sequel, which was announced in April 2022 during the series’ 20th anniversary celebration. It has been well over three years since the initial reveal, with sparse updates in between.
While he was forthcoming about any impending announcements, he assured that the game’s development was on track. His translated statement read:
“On that same note. I’m seeing a lot of comments asking about Kingdom Hearts 4. We are making great strides and going according to schedule. So please wait for more information on that.”
Industry watchers and fans speculate that both games might get further reveal trailers at Tokyo Game Show 2025 or The Game Awards in December.
