Gamers may not learn the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 release date for many months. Even so, The Game Awards could tease the anticipated Square Enix game. The publisher released wallpaper with the broadcast date, celebrating a snowboarding mini-game from the original title.

Square Enix has a storied history at The Game Awards, including collecting trophies for Final Fantasy games. However, it also debuted several trailers at the event, including for the PC version of Rebirth in 2024. After spotting new calendar wallpaper, some fans expect news about Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 at the 2025 broadcast.

Genki on social media noticed that Square Enix posted December artwork, featuring a snowboarding mini-game. The winter sport appeared as an image in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but wasn’t playable. Game Director Naoki Hamaguchi earlier explained that the option, which appeared on disc 2 of the original release, wouldn’t be available in the game. However, he didn’t rule out the activity returning in a future installment.

The other curious part about the wallpaper is the date. December 15th is circled as Barret Wallace’s birthday, but the calendar displays December 12th in large print. The day just happens to be when the 2025 The Game Awards will air in European and Japanese time zones.

Final Fantasy fanatics have a new date to watch

Some gamers think the decision to highlight the 12th is more than a coincidence. With Square Enix yet to confirm whether it will attend the show, it’s unclear what might be presented. The Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade release date for the Switch 2 and Xbox consoles is January 22, 2026. Attendees may see an announcement regarding those ports or the final two chapters of the remake series.

While not official, rumors indicate that Rebirth will come to Nintendo and Microsoft systems in 2026. Hamaguchi has also talked extensively about Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, which hasn’t shipped on any platform. In October, he explained that development was progressing quickly. Hamaguchi also told fans to expect news “in the not too far future.”

It wouldn’t be surprising if players could snowboard in Part 3, as Genki speculates. Followers will have to tune into The Game Awards to see what, if anything, the frosty wallpaper was hinting at.
