Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 director Naoki Hamaguchi says development is progressing smoothly and that he has already completed more than 40 full playthroughs of the still-unfinished finale to ensure a high level of polish. While the concluding entry remains without an official title or release date, Hamaguchi indicated an announcement is in preparation, fueling speculation of a summer reveal and a potential launch in early 2027.

Final Fantasy VII fans have been clinging to every scrap of information they can find on the third and final installment of the FFVII remake trilogy. Development appears to be progressing smoothly, with the director overseeing the project from top to bottom. Apparently, he’s even played through the entirety of the unfinished game more than 40 times already to ensure a high level of polish for the epic conclusion to the Final Fantasy VII trilogy.

In a new interview with Nintendo Life, Hamaguchi explained that development is progressing well, noting that he has personally completed around 40 playthroughs, the kind of hands-on testing you would expect from a director intent on delivering a polished product.

In the interview, he gleefully stated, “We’re excited about how the game is currently progressing. I have completed over 40 playthroughs! I can’t wait for as many people as possible to experience the game for themselves, and my team and I are working hard to ensure we can create an unforgettable gameplay experience.”

He went on to discuss the studio’s vision for keeping the energy and momentum at an all-time high across the Remake trilogy, especially now that the first two entries in the series have recently been released on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Hamaguchi further stated, “With large-scale titles like this one, it’s common for a long gap to exist between the first and second installments. However, because these versions were ports, we decided we could deliver them without leaving a significant gap. We want to capitalize on this cadence and momentum to tie the experiences together without any gaps, from Remake to Rebirth to finally the third installment that lies beyond them.”

Final Fantasy VII Remake launched first on PlayStation in 2020 before later coming to other platforms, while Rebirth arrived in 2024, with a Switch 2 port scheduled for this June. Unfortunately, the trilogy’s epic conclusion still doesn’t have a release date or even an official title.

We might likely get the first stream of information on the upcoming installment this summer, as Hamaguchi stated in a late-April interview that “preparations toward the announcement are steadily underway. Please wait a little.”

Speculation suggests that FFVII Remake Part 3 will receive a full reveal this summer, with a release date currently rumored for the first quarter of 2027. Furthermore, Hamaguchi has hinted that Part 3 of FFVII’s remake project won’t simply conclude the story; rather, it will flesh out and expand the series’ world-building to unprecedented levels.
