Square Enix announces new expansion, Evangelion tie-in for Final Fantasy XIV

It's going to be a chilly January for Final Fantasy XIV fans.
Square Enix announced the next expansion for Final Fantasy XIV (also titled Final Fantasy 14) this week. Titled Evercold, the expansion takes place in a world overcome by an unyielding frost, and it's up to the player and their party to discover why.
The expansion will feature two new jobs (not yet revealed at press time). Square Enix did disclose that one job would be a tank, and the other would be a physical ranged DPS. Additionally, Warriors of Light can expect to discover new cities, "distinctive" new areas, new monsters, new allies, a new raid series, and a new ultimate raid.
The level cap for the game will also be increased from 100 to 110 with Evercold. The developers also plan to overhaul combat in the expansion with two modes: Reborn and Evolved. Reborn Mode will feature tweaks to the current combat system, and Evolved Mode "offers greater emphasis on job identity," according to Square Enix.
Interestingly, Square Enix is also partnering with khara, Inc. [sic] to tie in in the popular anime EVANGELION. This will be in the form of an alliance raid series titled EVANGELION - Ghosts of Desire and will feature aspects from the culture giant of EVANGELION, a wildly popular mecha anime. There are no further details at this time.
