Deal | Brutal metal shooter with mech action and 92% positive reviews drops below $4 on Steam for the first time

Fans of Valfaris, or anyone in the mood for some mech action made for headbanging, may want to take a look at this Steam deal. Valfaris: Mecha Therion is currently available at 80% off, bringing the price down from $19.99 to $3.99. According to SteamDB, the Steam Deck-verified title has never been this cheap. Its predecessor, Valfaris, is practically a playable metal album, built around brutal run-and-gun action in a dark sci-fi hell. Anyone who has not played the first game yet can also pick it up on Steam at 85% off, bringing the price down to $2.49.
Mecha Therion once again casts players as the eponymous metal warrior and antihero Therion, who continues his galaxy-spanning hunt for the evil Lord Vroll after escaping Valfaris. This time, however, he is not on foot, but inside a heavily armed mech. The key difference is that players can now move freely along the vertical axis as well, making Mecha Therion more of a shoot ’em up than a classic run-and-gun shooter. From a 2.5D perspective, players blast their way through hostile alien areas, destroying enemies, bosses and destructible objects in classic arcade fashion. Therion’s mech can also be upgraded using Blood Metal. After the first playthrough, a challenge mode awaits.

In GameGrin’s review, Mecha Therion was very well received. The powerful heavy metal soundtrack and action-packed gameplay earned particular praise, while the mechanics and level design also impressed. However, the game does include some unfair sections and plenty of blood. Overall, the Valfaris sequel scored 9 out of 10 points. The Steam rating is also strong at around 92% positive, although this is based on only about 430 user reviews. On Metacritic, Mecha Therion has a Metascore of 83 and a User Score of 7.3.
