Deal | Steam: 96% positive RPG surprise hit from 2023 returns to its lowest price

Dave the Diver was one of 2023’s biggest indie surprises. According to SteamDB, MINTROCKET’s debut game nearly reached 100,000 concurrent players shortly after its launch. The Steam Deck-verified title is once again available on Steam at its all-time low of around $11. Based on its price history, anyone who misses the current deal will likely get another chance soon.
What makes Dave the Diver stand out is its offbeat blend of simulation and diving adventure. Players take on the role of Dave, a laid-back but slightly overwhelmed diver. During the day, he dives into the ocean, hunts fish with harpoons, gathers resources and ventures deeper into unknown waters. Along the way, players have to keep an eye on their oxygen and occasionally take on boss enemies.

At night, Dave helps out at a sushi restaurant, where the game turns into a hectic mini-management sim built around serving guests quickly and earning as much money as possible. That money can then be used to buy better diving equipment. The dishes on the menu depend on the fish caught during the day. Alongside this diving-and-restaurant loop, Dave the Diver also tells a rather bizarre story.
According to 4Players’ German review, Dave the Diver offers varied gameplay, humorous dialogue and excellent cutscenes. However, the mouse-and-keyboard controls are said to feel somewhat unusual, so players are best advised to keep a controller ready. The review found no major points of criticism and awarded the unusual mix 9 out of 10 points. On Steam, Dave the Diver has almost 150,000 reviews with a very positive average of 96%. It also performs well on Metacritic, with a Metascore of 90 and a User Score of 8.2.
