Pokémon Winds & Waves leak: Komodo dragon with rare typing may be important to the story

Following a major leak at Game Freak, which was reported on by GameRant, among others, quite a bit is already known about the Pokémon in the upcoming Winds & Waves games. There is speculation about a Stereo Rotom and a special Seed Pokémon that may evolve differently depending on how the game is played. The legendary Pokémon are reportedly called “Wind Grandpa” and “Wave Grandma”, although their exact significance remains unclear. In total, Generation 10 could introduce between 100 and 150 new Pokémon.

Now, well-known leaker CentroLeaks, via BGuy, has shared information about another Pokémon, and it has a rather unusual type combination: Dragon/Poison. The leak specifically mentions a Komodo dragon Pokémon. That would fit well, as Pokémon Winds & Waves is rumored to be set in a region inspired by Southeast Asia, and Komodo dragons are native to Indonesia. The type combination would also make sense. More than ten years ago, fans on Reddit were already discussing that a Komodo dragon Pokémon should have the Dragon/Poison typing.

If the leak turns out to be true, the Komodo dragon would be just the second Dragon/Poison-type Pokémon. The first Pokémon with this typing was Naganadel from Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. It was later followed by Eternatus, which was introduced in Pokémon Sword and Shield (available on Amazon for around $51). In connection with the new Dragon/Poison Pokémon, CentroLeaks also claims that the Poison-type Gym Leader in the game will be a “performer”, presumably a singer or dancer. The alleged Komodo dragon is also said to play a role in the story. It could therefore be the Gym Leader’s signature Pokémon. Some fans on X are also speculating that it could be a pseudo-legendary Pokémon.
