Pokémon Winds and Waves leak hints at 100 islands in open world gen 10 Switch 2 game

When the Pokémon Winds and Waves release date arrives in 2027, fans know it will be an open-world game. However, a new leak suggests a much larger map to explore than expected. A text file from a beta build of the Switch 2 title refers to “A region made up of around 100 islands.” It also alludes to a mysterious gameplay mechanic called “Majinization.”
An unrealistic goal?
On social media, Centro Leaks shared early dialogue from the Game Freak project. As with many other Pokémon Winds and Waves leaks, the script is a product of the infamous 2024 Teraleak. Previous material hinted at 17-18 tropical islands, so the latest revelation has surprised followers.
Gamers are discussing several ways the developers could execute such a vast open world. The most straightforward but painstaking approach would be to create each location from scratch, including unique scenery and creatures. Still, some degree of procedural generation seems more practical.
Game Freak may employ algorithms to produce different environments in the Gen 10 Pokémon experience. They could also determine which Pokémon inhabit each destination. Similarly, 17 islands could be drawn in advance, with the remaining locales as variations on those designs. In a less exciting scenario, not all the islands would be accessible.
Majinization speculation
The other Pokémon Winds and Waves leak drawing attention introduces a suspected battle mechanic. In the dialogue, it teases, “A new potential for Pokémon!” Trainers will be able to “Learn about Majinization (魔神化) on the Majinize Tour (マジナイズツアー)!” Apparently, the ability or state activates through a Majinize Band.
If a tour celebrates the gameplay element, it’s likely to be a major focus of the Switch 2 title. One theory is that creatures take on a demonic form, giving them an advantage during combat. Harnessing the power of nature is a consistent theme of the Teraleak, so it may influence or be affected by weather.
Since the text is from a 2024 build or earlier, the studio may have made significant changes to the Gen 10 game. Anxious fans are suffering from an information drought following the February Pokémon Winds and Waves release date news.
