According to analyst Mat Piscatella, Pokémon Legends Z-A took second position in October. The record was even more impressive because Nintendo does not share digital sales reports with Circana. The title enjoyed the run purely on physical sales, and it has held the top spot for US game sales year-to-date in 2025 in that category.
Meanwhile, October saw movements on the games sales chart. September’s best-selling title, Borderlands 4, dropped to tenth place. The Outer Worlds 2 snagged seventh position after launching in the same month. It was followed by another new release, Little Nightmares III. Ninja Gaiden 4 cracked the top 20 in its first month but had to settle for eleventh place.
On the hardware side, Nintendo Switch 2 remained the console to beat in the US, ahead of the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S. It sold 68 percent better than its predecessor, the original Switch did in the same time period back in 2017. Sales of the Switch 2 were also 3 percent more than PlayStation 4’s record-setting performance.
Asus was another top gainer, with its portable PC hardware sales more than quadrupling. The surge was driven by the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X launches.
In all, US gamers spent 3 percent more in October than in the same period in 2024.
