Fortnite has grown into the most profitable free-to-play battle royal game. However, it started life in 2017 as a cooperative looter-shooter tower-defense hybrid co-published with Gearbox. Epic Games made a limited number of physical copies, and sealed units from the era are very rare.
As reported by Dexerto on X, an old copy, originally priced at $60, sold for the highest price ever on Heritage Auctions. The unit achieved the highest grade ever for a Fortnite copy in Wata’s September 2025 population report, helping it raise the bid above $40,000.
The sale exceeded the previous record of $13,750 for a Fortnite copy by more than 200 percent. According to The Gamer, other copies are listed on eBay for up to $10,000, but they have so far failed to attract a buyer.
However, opened copies move faster, but are significantly cheaper. A recent transaction was completed for $750 for a copy with an unused Founders Deluxe code. There are offers between $600 and $650, but most have sold for about $100 per unit.
