Many celestial objects pass each year near to the Earth and can sometimes present a danger, such as this asteroid that is expected to collide with the Moon in 2032. But in the next few years, a new companion might be orbiting Earth, and it will be necessary to monitor it closely.
Named 2022 RD2, this asteroid belongs to the Arjunas, which are celestial objects located in a secondary asteroid belt. Obviously, as with each new observation, some people wonder if it is not an alien probe, but in this case, this asteroid is natural because its behavior is similar to all others.
Regarding its trajectory, it will pass close to Earth and be captured by the gravity of our planet and that of the Moon. In other words, 2022 RD2 will orbit the Earth between November 12, 2043, and December 12, 2043, February 29, 2044, and May 21, 2044, and July 10, 2044, and July 29, 2044. However, its behavior could change in the coming years, which could modify its trajectory.
But it is important to note that astronomers are already studying the potential risk of impact. Indeed, after these three passes around Earth, this small asteroid could become unstable. But beware, because this could happen in several years, between 2080 and 2114. And this, despite the fact that the probability is currently 0.097%.
