Fitbit Air gets brand-new Pokémon Sleep Special Edition
The Google Fitbit Air ($99 on Amazon) is getting a new Pokémon Sleep Special Edition. This new version of the display-less wearable features a dark blue wristband with a yellow Pikachu icon and "Pokémon Sleep" branding on the clasp. The wristband can be adjusted to any length using a Velcro closure.
Aside from the wristband, the Pokémon Special Edition is no different from the regular Fitbit Air, as any version of the fitness tracker can be used with Pokémon Sleep. The smartphone app turns sleep tracking into a game – the longer you sleep, the more Pokémon appear in the app. The Pokédex is replaced by a Sleep Style Dex, which you complete by trying out different sleeping habits. The app also rewards a healthy sleep routine.
Technically, however, nothing has changed. The Fitbit Air, even in the Pokémon Special Edition, features a heart rate and SpO2 sensor, a skin temperature sensor, and a three-axis motion sensor, allowing the wristband to track not only sleep but also activities, steps, and workouts. Thanks to a built-in vibration motor, the Fitbit Air can also function as a silent alarm clock. Weighing just 12 grams including the wristband, the Fitbit Air is extremely lightweight, yet is still expected to achieve a battery life of one week.
