Whoop 5.0 Meridian launches with titanium build, but surprising drawback

The Whoop 5.0 ($239 on Amazon) clearly looks like a fitness tracker with its standard fabric wristband. Thanks to Whoop Meridian, however, the tracker could almost pass for jewelry, as the manufacturer’s latest wristband was apparently inspired by Milanese straps, such as those offered for many watches or even the Apple Watch.
The wristband is made of 100 percent titanium, and the rose gold, gold, and matte black finishes are achieved through a PVD coating. The clasp is magnetic and can therefore be adjusted continuously. However, aside from its high price, the Whoop 5.0 Meridian has a serious drawback: To charge the Whoop 5.0, the wristband must first be removed. This is because the inductive charger cannot wirelessly charge the battery through a metal wristband.
While the Whoop Meridian alone costs more than, say, a Fitbit Air or an Amazfit Helio Strap, new customers should note that using it requires not only purchasing a Whoop 5.0 fitness tracker but also signing up for a subscription. Even the most basic subscription costs $199 per year, while the most advanced features are only available with the more expensive subscription for $359 per year. More details about Whoop 5.0 and the available subscriptions can be found on the manufacturer’s website.
Prices and availability
The Whoop Meridian is now available for $149 in the manufacturer’s online store, in a choice of rose gold, gold, silver, or black. A Whoop 5.0 fitness tracker must be purchased separately.
