Pokémon Winds and Waves release date leak suggests long wait for Gen 10 Switch 2 game

In February 2026, Nintendo confirmed a Pokémon Winds and Waves release date in 2027. Many fans hoped the Switch 2 exclusive might arrive early next year. However, a fresh leak about the Gen 10 title claims it will ship in a month familiar to new Pokémon games.

When Gen 10 might launch

BallGuy has established a reliable track record, especially after identifying the three starters for the Game Freak project. In a straightforward social media post, the gamer revealed November 2027 as the likely launch window.

With Scarlet and Violet emerging in 2022, loyalists have coveted a Gen 10 follow-up since. It’s been a longer gap than usual, but the latest Pokémon Winds and Waves leak comes as no surprise to followers. Gen 2, 3, 7, 8, and 9 all surfaced in November. Other titles targeted September or October, including Legends: Z-A in 2025.

Previous reports also indicated that the island-hopping creature catcher would appear late in 2027. Most notably, Riddler Khu, who has a solid reputation, offered the same estimate in April. The insider warned fans not to expect a major update or another trailer in 2026, which has proven accurate so far.

A quiet anniversary 

The last opportunity to hear news was the recent Pokémon World Championships. In the past, the event featured titles like Scarlet and Violet and Legends: Z-A. Despite it being the 30th anniversary of games based on the IP, 2026 has seen relatively few debuts. Pokémon Pokopia and Champions are two notable exceptions.

While the BallGuy Pokémon Winds and Waves release date rumor may disappoint, the Gen 10 Pokémon game could be worth the wait. Switch 2 exclusivity promises more optimized visuals than those encountered in Gen 9.

Another potentially positive development was a Winds and Waves leak concerning a new director and co-director. BallGuy, Centro Leaks, and others reported that after directing Scarlet and Violet, Shigeru Ohmori would step aside. Instead, Hiroyuki Tani, with help from Katsuhiko Ichiraku, is believed to be in charge. Both Game Freak employees directed successful expansions and DLC.
