Beam Pump: Tiny, dual-purpose gadget serves as air pump and lantern

Beam Pump, a gadget from outdoor brand Outzac, combines two pieces of backpacking equipment in one compact device: an electric air pump and an LED lantern. Measuring 38 x 90 mm and weighing 78 g (2.7 oz), the compact device spares campers from having to transport separate inflation and lighting gear.

As a pump, the device produces 300 L/min of airflow and 5 kPa of pressure, with Outzac claiming that it fills a standard sleeping pad in 40-65 seconds while running at around 65 decibels. Six swappable nozzles are said to fit major pad brands such as Therm-a-Rest, Sea to Summit, Exped, Big Agnes, Klymit and Nemo, plus inflatable kayaks and water toys, though the maker acknowledges it is not suitable for stand-up paddleboards, which require far higher pressure.

As a lantern, it provides four brightness settings ranging from 6 to 300 lumens. Its inbuilt battery is rated for up to 50 hours of operation at the lowest brightness, and the device can also be recharged via USB-C while in use. A handle allows it to be suspended inside a tent, while optional pumpkin- and pinecone shades provide alternative lighting designs. Moreover, the device has IPX4 water resistance, although it is intended to withstand splashes rather than sustained exposure to rain.

At the time of writing, the Beam Pump has already exceeded its $10,003 crowdfunding goal on Kickstarter by 846% for $94,690 well ahead of its late-September 2026 deadline. Supporters can secure an "Super Early Bird" deal for $32 against a stated future retail price of $59. Shipping is tentatively planned for around October 2026, but like any other crowdfunded product, these figures and timelines remain unverified promises rather than guarantees.
