Tamagotchi Ring shrinks virtual pet to its smallest size yet
With the Tamagotchi Ring, Bandai announced its smallest virtual pet to date. Bandai stays true to the typical egg-shaped design of a conventional Tamagotchi ($20 on Amazon) and, as usual, features a color LCD screen on the front. However, the three buttons below this display are purely decorative, the ring is controlled instead by buttons on the left and right sides of the casing.
At just 28 millimeters tall, the ring is barely half the size of the original Tamagotchi, and nearly 60 percent smaller than the first model with a color display, which was released in 2008. The ring was developed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Tamagotchi and therefore features 30 of the most popular virtual pets in the gadget’s history.
According to Bandai, the development of this Tamagotchi Ring took two years. The final product consists of 52 electronic components and twelve plastic housing parts. Since there wasn’t enough space for a replaceable battery, the ring uses a rechargeable battery that can be recharged in the included charging case. The ring is available in silver, gold, or a pearl gradient finish. The ring is designed for Japanese ring size 14 but, thanks to an adapter, also fits fingers with ring size 10. This corresponds roughly to U.S. ring sizes 7 and 5.5.
Prices and availability
The Tamagotchi Ring is available in Japan for ¥7,700 ($48). While Bandai has not yet confirmed any plans for an international launch, Meccha Japan offers the ring for around $82 with worldwide shipping. Shipments will not begin until February 2027.
