Pokémon Pokopia is a cozy-style game set in the Pokémon universe, which we first covered in late October. With only limited details available so far – especially regarding the version planned for the Nintendo Switch 2 – speculation within the community is running high. One of the most discussed fan theories suggests that Pokopia takes place in a post-apocalyptic version of Kanto.
So far, glimpses of Pokémon Pokopia have shown a Ditto, empty islands and a world that seems abandoned by humans. While players control a human character, it is actually a Ditto that has transformed into one. Many fans interpret these elements as strong hints of a past disaster that wiped out or displaced human civilization. Now, new information has surfaced that appears to support this theory even further.
Leaker CentroLeaks recently shared a map on X that reportedly depicts a devastated version of the Kanto region from Pokémon Pokopia. According to translated descriptions, Fuchsia is now "dried up and unfertilized fieldland," Viridian has turned into a "never-ending, burning forest of ash," and Pewter is described as an "abandoned mine covered by rocks." The leak has since been picked up by Insider Gaming, adding further weight to the post-apocalyptic theory. Still, the setting has not been officially confirmed by Nintendo or The Pokémon Company.
According to the leak, additional regions in Pokémon Pokopia will only become available later through DLCs – a detail that hasn’t gone over well with some fans. While sarcastic comments like “Thank god they finally nuked Kanto” have appeared, many others view the concept as refreshingly bold. The idea of an alternate universe has been met with genuine interest, with fans praising the creative direction, even if similar themes have already appeared in games like Ultra Sun & Moon or Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
