A new installment in the long-running "Teraleaks" series has sparked fresh excitement in the Pokémon community. A playable prototype of the unreleased Pokémon Pokopia has surfaced online. Initially developed by Game Freak and later passed on to Koei Tecmo, the project is reportedly scheduled for a 2026 release in collaboration with Nintendo, according to Insider Gaming.
A two-minute gameplay video was shared on X – first by user RyDawgE and later amplified by well-known leaker Centro Leaks. According to Centro, the build is based on an early version of Unity, with its full source code previously available on archive.org. Internally referred to as megaturtle_mock, the project was reportedly developed for the original Nintendo Switch. In this version, players control a humanoid form of the transformable Pokémon Ditto. Gameplay leans more toward farming simulations like Stardew Valley than traditional Pokémon titles.
Pokopia features an open world where players can befriend Pokémon, gather resources, farm, and build structures alongside their pocket monster companions. Beyond the farming elements, the heart of the game lies in forming relationships with Pokémon. Working, feeding and playing together strengthen these bonds, unlocking new interactions and abilities. Visually, the game embraces a pixel art style that more closely resembles Stardew Valley than a traditional Pokémon title.
The leaked prototype of Pokémon Pokopia appears to stem from a very early stage of development, likely dating back to 2019. Menus and animations are clearly unfinished, featuring placeholder graphics and rough textures. Still, the build offers a surprisingly solid glimpse into the game’s concept. Core systems such as movement, farming mechanics, inventory management and assigning tasks to Pokémon already appear functional. Music and sound effects are also present, suggesting that this version may have been created as an internal presentation build – possibly to pitch the concept to Nintendo or Koei Tecmo.
Leaked Pokopia prototype reveals the game’s original vision
The leak doesn’t reveal what Pokopia will ultimately look like, but rather what it was originally intended to be. After the project was handed over to Koei Tecmo, development shifted to an entirely new technical foundation and a modern 3D visual style, aiming to bring the game in line with next-generation consoles such as the Nintendo Switch 2. According to Insider Gaming, many of the gameplay concepts from the prototype – including working together with Pokémon and building structures – may carry over, though their final implementation is expected to be significantly more advanced and visually polished.
Theoretically playable
Since the full Unity project folder – including scripts, assets and build files – has been uploaded online, Pokopia is theoretically playable. The data can be downloaded and opened in a compatible version of Unity via the archive.org link shared by Centro Leaks. However, it’s important to emphasize that downloading or using this material raises serious copyright concerns. This is unreleased, proprietary content belonging to Nintendo and Game Freak, and distributing or accessing it without authorization could result in legal consequences.
