Pompeii: The Legacy takes players to the Roman Empire and tasks them with rebuilding Pompeii after its destruction by Mount Vesuvius. The historical city builder is currently 50% off on Steam for the first time, bringing it to a new all-time low of $9.99.

Just about everyone has probably heard of Pompeii. The ancient settlement was located at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, which erupted catastrophically in 79 AD. The volcano not only destroyed large parts of the city, but also preserved them for posterity – one reason Pompeii is so well known today. Pompeii: The Legacy picks up around 20 years later. Pompeii lies in ruins and, under the player's leadership, is meant to grow into a thriving Roman city once again.

However, rebuilding involves more than just roads and buildings. Different social classes need to be provided for, while trade routes bring money and resources into the city. Politics also plays a role: Relationships with allies and the imperial family can determine how Pompeii develops. Earthquakes, fires, famines, epidemics and political sabotage create additional problems that can plunge the painstakingly rebuilt city into chaos. More information about the game can be found in our previous article.

In Steam reviews, Pompeii: The Legacy is compared to classics such as the Caesar series and Imperium Romanum. Players particularly praise the atmospheric Roman setting, well-designed campaign and wealth of content. The relatively relaxed yet strategic city-building gameplay is also well received by many players. Criticism, on the other hand, is directed at the sometimes opaque trading system, issues with supply chains and the user interface, which still has room for improvement. Overall, 81% of 280 user reviews are positive.

The city builder from Croatian one-man studio Siscia Games normally costs $19.99 on Steam. A 50% discount, however, brings the price down to $9.99 until September 7. According to SteamDB, previous discounts topped out at 44%, meaning the current deal marks a new all-time low. On the Steam Deck, Pompeii: The Legacy is rated as “Playable.”
