No GTA 6 cameo confirmed as GTA 5 Michael actor defends Rockstar’s graphics

GTA V’s Michael De Santa actor, Ned Luke, has taken to the internet to give his two cents on Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI after The Extended Look dropped on August 27, 2026. While there’s no confirmation that he might make a cameo in the sequel, that hasn’t stopped him from praising the game and its animation.
Ned Luke reacted to GTA VI: Extended Look on YouTube and outright rejected comparisons between GTA V and GTA VI, saying pedestrian animations have taken a step beyond what Rockstar achieved in the previous installment.
A significant visual upgrade with overhauled character animations
According to him, pedestrian animations now feel natural, with GTA VI characters’ eyes and movements showing lifelike gaits compared to the stiffer, semi-locked walking cycles of pedestrians and NPCs in GTA V, released thirteen years ago.
Nevertheless, Luke hasn’t been credited or confirmed to make an appearance in Grand Theft Auto VI, and from what we know so far, he has no involvement in the game’s production, so his defense of GTA VI boils down to a technical fan analysis.
Back when GTA V shipped in 2013, the game ran on a system of blended motion-capture cycles that were stitched together with limited inverse kinematics, i.e., calculations that allow a game to correct where feet or hands actually land during movements instead of following a fixed pre-recorded path. That made characters feel less realistic and a bit stiff thirteen years later.
Still, despite no confirmed involvement with GTA VI, given his major role as one of GTA V’s lead playable characters, along with numerous hours of motion capture and voice-over work in the previous installment, his opinion bears a lot more weight than that of the average fan or game developer. Ned Luke said:
“Watch the way people move. The walks are actual human walks. We still had a little bit of that mechanical thing going with our walks and the way we’d stand. For me, I felt like my legs were never fully straight. They always had this little bend in them.”
He continued: “The technology has grown by leaps and bounds, you know? What would make you think it’s going to be better than those games? It’s no diss to those games. It’s like between GTA 5 and GTA 4. Our graphics blew GTA 4 away. They weren’t even close.”
Many fans and viewers who tuned into GTA VI: Extended Look complained that Jason and Lucia’s gunfights and chase sequences seemed familiar to GTA V’s. Some fans also said the graphics looked worse than Rockstar Games’ 2018 title Red Dead Redemption 2. Responding to these statements, Ned Luke hedged:
“This looks nothing like Grand Theft Auto V. I think they’re out of their minds. Sorry, guys, you’re wrong. The graphics here beat Red Dead. I’ll tell you one thing: I never looked that good,” he said, pointing to Jason Duval in the game.
