GTA 6 could launch without a first-person mode. While some fans can live without it, others are already calling it a “deal breaker” and a step backward compared to Red Dead Redemption 2.

Following the Extended Look at GTA 6, more and more details are coming to light – including a Red Dead Redemption 2 Easter egg and a macabre piece of training equipment that will apparently appear in the game. At least one new detail, however, may not sit well with all fans: GTA 6 could launch without a first-person mode. The speculation stems from Brazilian content creator Davy Jones, who was part of a select group of influencers invited to Rockstar North in Scotland to try out Grand Theft Auto VI ahead of release. According to Jones, the version he played did not offer an option to switch to a first-person perspective.

The situation is not entirely clear, however. Rockstar has yet to provide any official confirmation. Insider Gaming has also covered the topic and notes that it is unclear whether Jones actually had the absence of a first-person perspective confirmed by Rockstar or simply did not see such a mode during his preview. If first-person mode is indeed missing at launch, it would represent something of a step backward. GTA 5 did not receive a first-person perspective until the PS4 and Xbox One versions arrived in 2014, but Red Dead Redemption 2 included it right from launch.

On Reddit, many fans are clearly disappointed. Some are even calling it a “deal breaker” or an “immersion killer.” Many say they would particularly miss the first-person perspective while driving – especially given the detailed vehicle interiors Rockstar has shown so far. Others are taking the news more calmly. They barely used first person in GTA 5 anyway and prefer the classic third-person view. Nevertheless, fans consider the concerns quite plausible. Some suspect that Rockstar may be holding the feature back for a later PC, next-gen or Enhanced version of GTA 6 (available for pre-order on Amazon). Until Rockstar addresses the matter itself, however, this remains pure speculation.
