Xiaomi unveils Poco X8 with IP69K, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and huge 8,340 mAh battery
Along with the Poco F9 Ultra, Xiaomi also announced the Poco X8 today, which is positioned as a more affordable alternative to the Poco X8 Pro ($375 on Amazon). Although the more affordable model uses a less powerful processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, it comes with an 8,340 mAh battery that supports 67-watt fast charging via USB-C.
The silicon battery is said to not only offer 63 percent more capacity than the previous model but also achieve an exceptionally long lifespan, retaining 80 percent of its original capacity even after 1,600 charge cycles. The 8.6-millimeter-thick, 223-gram heavy case is certified to IP68 and IP69K standards, making it waterproof. The 6.83-inch display is protected by rugged Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
The AMOLED panel has a resolution of 2,772 x 1,280 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a peak HDR brightness of 3,500 nits. Xiaomi has equipped the device with a 16-megapixel selfie camera and a 50 MP f/1.8 main camera with OIS, which is paired with nothing more than a useless 2 MP sensor. A new feature is the dedicated underwater mode, which is designed to simplify taking photos and videos underwater. The Poco X8 offers Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, a dual-SIM slot, an NFC chip, and a fingerprint sensor integrated directly into the display.
Pricing and availability
The Xiaomi Poco X8 will launch first in Europe with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of flash storage for €319 ($369), the top-of-the-line model with 12 GB of RAM will cost €359 ($416) at launch. Once the launch promotion ends, the price will rise to €399 ($462) and €449 ($520), respectively.
