GTA 6: Small detail could reveal something big about Jason’s personality

The Extended Look at GTA 6 (available for pre-order on Amazon) is packed with small details that fans are only noticing after watching it multiple times. One seemingly insignificant moment has now sparked a major discussion on Reddit. More specifically, it involves the scene starting at the 17:31 mark: Jason and Lucia approach a nightclub where they plan to meet music mogul Dre'Quan Priest. A man comes outside and greets Jason with a handshake. Jason then raises his hand again, apparently expecting the greeting to continue. At that moment, however, the man has already turned toward Lucia, prompting Jason to awkwardly lower his hand.

While some see the hand gesture as nothing more than a finger snap, others believe it could offer a small clue about Jason's personality: Despite his otherwise tough demeanor, the protagonist could be more introverted and somewhat uncomfortable in social situations. The theory is not entirely new. After the second GTA 6 trailer, fans were already speculating about whether Jason might have social anxiety or possibly even be autistic. The clue at the time was similarly subtle, however: In a brief scene starting at the 0:52 mark, Jason appears to deliberately avoid eye contact with a security guard. But this is far from conclusive. Another theory suggests that Jason may know the guard and could be playing both sides as an undercover cop.

In addition to the handshake scene, there is another moment at the 9:35 mark that supports the theory. Before meeting Brian and Lori, Jason admits to Lucia that he sometimes feels more comfortable with a gun in his hand than at a meeting like this. For some fans, an interesting picture of his character is gradually beginning to emerge: Jason appears confident in dangerous situations, but less so in ordinary social interactions. If Rockstar is indeed deliberately hiding clues about Jason's personality, the reasons behind it could also prove interesting. Some fans suspect that his time in the military and traumatic experiences during his service could play a role. Other theories lean more toward depression or social anxiety. So far, however, none of this has been confirmed.
