Pull a gun, empty the register, get away – spontaneous robberies in GTA V were fairly simple. GTA 6 could turn them into a much more complex affair.

Robberies have always been part of GTA, but outside of scripted missions, they have been implemented in a fairly simple way so far. In GTA V, all it takes is threatening the cashier with a weapon, grabbing the money and then escaping from the police. Planning and preparation were not necessary. With Grand Theft Auto VI (available for pre-order on Amazon), however, that appears to be changing.

The gameplay shown so far at least suggests that robberies, and particularly the ensuing escape, will offer considerably more possibilities. For example, the police appear to be looking not only for Jason and Lucia, but also for the vehicle used in the crime. In one scene, a getaway car is even set on fire after a robbery and then swapped for another vehicle. Disguises and clothing could also play a role in escaping the cops.

Fans are looking forward to “proper” robberies

The idea is being well received on Reddit. In a recent thread, user u/Working-Werewolf7554 writes that they are particularly excited about finally being able to pull off “proper” robberies in free roam. They found the options in GTA V disappointing. The Redditor is receiving plenty of support in the comments. Fans imagine robberies in GTA 6 working something like this: Prepare a change of clothes, park a getaway car in a side street beforehand, carry out the robbery while masked and then switch vehicles and clothes afterward to shake the cops. Robberies could therefore require considerably more planning than before.

Despite all the excitement, fans should not expect too much just yet. Rockstar has not confirmed that robberies in GTA 6 will actually require elaborate planning. However, the mechanics already shown involving disguises, vehicles and the new wanted system at least offer some hope that spontaneous crimes in GTA 6 will have more depth.
