Upcoming Skyrim mod converts the engine into a full Vampire: The Masquerade game

The as of now five-year long volunteer project was recently shown in an extensive gameplay presentation during 2026's Mod Con. It reinterprets canonical elements from 2000’s Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption, following crusader Christof Romuald through medieval Prague before eventually shifting to London and New York in 1999. The developers have also adjusted the story to better fit older World of Darkness lore rather than attempting a completely faithful remake.
Most of Skyrim’s character progression has been discarded. Skills no longer improve through repeated use, with experience instead spent directly on attributes, abilities and vampiric Disciplines. High attribute scores can reveal hidden areas or additional loot, while certain weapons support two different grips that trade attack speed for damage. Combat is intended to be fast and unforgiving, with only 100 health points, no instant healing and increased damage that may require resting at the player’s haven to recover.
Vampirism also functions as more than a collection of combat powers. Christof must hunt for vitae without attracting attention, but potential victims can be anemic, diseased or killed through careless feeding. Public violence, obvious Discipline use and uncontrolled frenzy can damage the Masquerade and draw increasingly dangerous hunters. Meanwhile, lying, stealing, injuring others and killing can erode Christof’s Humanity, with complete moral collapse resulting in a game over.
Players will eventually command a coterie whose members can be upgraded, issued behavioral orders and controlled directly. The developers plan to release the Prague storyline first before reusing the project’s locations and systems for Vampire: The Masquerade - Chronicles, a collection of original World of Darkness stories with broader character options.
While already incredibly impressive, Vampire: The Masquerade Reawakened remains unfinished, and some demonstrated features, including its modern gunplay, aren’t guaranteed for release. Nevertheless, it already serves as a testament to the hard and passionate work put in by this talented team of volunteers. We will be sure to follow the project's progress with keen interest.
