GTA 6 release date delay ruled out by Rockstar dev after polished Netflix trailer

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has repeatedly reaffirmed the November 19th GTA 6 release date. Still, until the Netflix Extended Look aired, Rockstar Games developers had largely stayed silent. Finally, in a Famitsu interview, a studio leader downplayed the possibility of a third delay.

Noticed by GamesRadar+, Rockstar North head developer Rob Nelson addressed the launch. The Japanese magazine remarked that the lengthy GTA 6 trailer showcases a high degree of polish. Asked if it might not debut when expected despite the progress made, Nelson replied:

It was our hope that people wouldn't be worried about the quality. We're really pleased. Also, it will be released on time.

The Netflix Extended Look reassured viewers that, following a prolonged development cycle, the project was in its final stages. Nevertheless, Cyberleek tried to raise questions about its readiness. With their identity still a mystery, a series of leaks featured Jason exploring a large open-world map.

In the most recent Lucia prologue video, Cyberleek claimed that the footage came from a newer build. The hacker also hinted that, with much more work to do, a GTA 6 release date delay was likely.

Rockstar’s Netflix trailer offered a complete look at Vice City and its surroundings. It placed more emphasis on Lucia and exposed gameplay mechanics not seen in the leaked clips. That could suggest Cyberleek possessed older code or only a partial build.

Setting a high bar

While there is reason for optimism, some fans may not feel reassured until their pre-ordered copy arrives. In the interview, Nelson confirmed that developers are refining the game’s innovative features. The studio notoriously strives for perfection and might hesitate to ship a title with a serious last-minute glitch.

Ex-Rockstar senior animator Mike York recently said a 6-month GTA 6 release date delay was not out of the question. He reiterated that his former employer has high standards and doubted a postponement would affect sales. Regardless, York made the comments before the convincing Extended Look premiered.
