Rockstar Games recently gave fans a closer look at GTA 6 through an Extended Look, which generated a huge amount of hype. And it seems that it also had a big impact on console sales.

Rockstar Games recently gave fans a closer look at GTA 6 through its Extended Look, showing more of what players can expect from the highly anticipated game. The footage generated a huge amount of hype, and that excitement appears to have already had an impact on console sales.

The PS5 Pro quickly sold out at several retailers following the reveal. The demand became so high that some third-party sellers on eBay were asking as much as $1,500 for the console.

According to data from NielsenIQ, reported by The Game Business, PlayStation and Xbox hardware sales in the UK jumped by roughly a third last week. PS5 sales increased 33%, while Xbox Series X/S sales climbed 34%. Nintendo Switch 2 sales also increased by around a third, although its price increase likely played a role in that boost.

The jump comes at an important time for the console market. UK hardware sales were down 14.4% year-over-year by the end of July, with PS5 sales falling 32%. Xbox Series X/S sales, meanwhile, were up 3.1%.

However, Newzoo's Ronan Patrick believes GTA 6 may not cause a massive long-term increase in console ownership. He noted that the PS5 is now 67% more expensive in inflation-adjusted terms than at launch, while Xbox consoles are twice as expensive.
