Community GTA 6 map uses Netflix trailer and leaks to accurately chart Leonida

The GTA 6 mapping project is in its home stretch as the game’s release date approaches. The Netflix Extended Look trailer gave organizers key details about Vice City and its surroundings. However, a leaked map from the infamous Cyberleek is largely responsible for the dramatic changes in V16.

Led by Yanis, the work-in-progress version has been posted on Discord and shared by Synth Potato. While there will be revisions before a public unveiling, it’s likely the most accurate depiction of Leonida yet.

The Cyberleek impact

Starting with initial screenshots and trailers from Rockstar, the community GTA 6 map began charting the massive open world. Gradually, it filled in the gaps with highways, buildings, and landmarks. Yet in mid-August, Cyberleek’s leaked image from a pre-release build transformed the map's overall shape.

In V16, the northernmost Mt. Kalaga National Park is now fragmented. Out west, Port Gellhorn enjoys a more intricate coastline. In the south, gamers have a better understanding of Leonida Keys, its islands, and how drivers and boats commute to the mainland.

The remaining regions of Ambrosia, Grassrivers, and Vice City have changed less, but have also benefited. Cyberleek’s geographic GTA 6 leak offered a broad overview but lacked specific points of interest when zooming in. The Netflix Extended Look and recent screenshots provided a ground-level view of key locations.

Some questions are now answered

As Rockstar marketing accelerates ahead of the release date, it will further boost the mapping project. The studio has also confirmed various theories in media previews. Rockstar North lead developer Rob Nelson explained that the GTA 6 map is around twice as large as its predecessor in GTA 5. Likewise, the urban Vice City dwarfs Los Santos by a factor of two.

Given the long development cycle, some fans have been slightly disappointed by Leonida's scale. Still, only after launch will it become apparent how dense the open world is. Many players hope to explore more interiors of homes and businesses.
