GTA 6: What fans know so far about Leonida's mysterious tower

While leaks and official reveals for Grand Theft Auto VI (currently available for pre-order on Amazon) appear to have slowed down since pre-orders opened, fans have once again turned their attention to the gigantic tower in or near Vice City. The structure first became a topic of discussion on Reddit three years ago following the release of the game's first trailer. At the time, however, there was little agreement on what it actually was.
Because of its enormous height, many found it hard to believe that Rockstar had placed an actual structure there. Some assumed it was a visual glitch, smoke or another object made to appear much larger by perspective. Others already suspected it was some kind of radio or communications tower, whose distinctive shape can be spotted as early as the 0:02 mark of the first trailer.
What we know so far
What fans know today is that the tower does, in fact, appear to exist in GTA 6. Rockstar has since released another screenshot in which the structure is clearly visible. It is also now well established that Leonida is heavily inspired by real-world locations in Florida, where towering broadcast masts are a familiar part of the landscape.

In South Florida – the region Rockstar is recreating through Leonida and Vice City – the WCIX Tower, for example, rises to nearly 550 meters (1,800 feet), dwarfing almost every skyscraper in the area. In a recent Reddit thread, there is little debate left about what the structure might be. Most users are convinced that it is a television or radio transmission tower.
What fans want to do – but will it actually be possible?
One thing that has not changed over the past three years is what many fans want to do with the tower: climb all the way to the top, enjoy the view and then jump off with a parachute. Whether that will actually be possible, however, remains unclear. At this point, it is still unknown whether the tower will even be accessible.
