GTA 6 will be an "instant skip" for many people if locked at 30 FPS on PS5 and other consoles

Grand Theft Auto is officially launching on November 19, promising the best visuals the GTA series has ever seen. However, this increase in visual fidelity is likely to come with a massive performance penalty. Since the current-gen Sony PS5 and the Xbox Series X aren’t that powerful to begin with, there are concerns that GTA 6 could be locked to just 30 FPS on consoles. This will be a pretty sad state of affairs, one that could compel many to wait for the game’s PC release to play at 60 FPS and higher.
Moore’s Law Is Dead recently conducted an audience poll on YouTube to see if people actually care about GTA 6 running at 30 FPS. The results are rather surprising.
Per MLID’s poll, a whopping 56% of people interested in GTA 6 called the game an “INSTANT SKIP” if it's locked to 30 FPS. These gamers claim that they will wait for the PC release of GTA 6 to play the game.
15.6% of the polled audience has chosen to wait and see what becomes of the game. This group has decided to skip the launch but also admits that they might “eventually FOMO” into it.
Finally, a considerable 26.4% of the people have reported that they will buy GTA 6 on release, as they “don’t want to miss a once-in-a-decade game”.

So, what do we make of MLID’s poll?
For starters, many gamers will indeed be put off by GTA 6 running at 30 FPS on the PS5 and the Xbox Series. However, GTA 5 ran at 1080p/30 FPS on the PS4 and Xbox One and still managed to sell hundreds of millions of copies on the PS3/PS4 and the Xbox 360/Xbox One. So, we don’t think many console gamers today would simply skip GTA 6 because of a potential 30 FPS cap.
What we do think will happen is that many gamers who play primarily on a gaming PC but have access to consoles will hold off on buying the game if there is a 30 FPS cap. These could be the people belonging to the 56% group on MLID’s poll.
Finally, while it is true that a significant number of people might not play GTA 6 at launch, the game is en route to selling a ton of copies. Initial pre-order estimates state that GTA 6 could’ve already sold more than 30 million copies. To put this into perspective, Marvel’s Spider-Man sold just over 22 million copies on the PS4. So, GTA 6 has already beaten Sony’s best-selling first-party PS4 game with just its pre-orders.
