In Watch Dogs 2, players step into the role of Marcus Holloway and join the hacker collective DedSec. Together, the group disables security networks, manipulates the city's digital infrastructure and attempts to expose the activities of the technology giant Blume. The game takes place in a freely explorable recreation of the San Francisco Bay Area, featuring urban neighborhoods, Silicon Valley, scenic coastal roads and numerous real-world landmarks. On Steam, Watch Dogs 2 is available until July 17 with a 95% discount, reducing the price from nearly $50 to just $2.49. According to SteamDB, the previous highest discount was 90%, most recently during the 2025 Winter Sale. The current offer therefore marks a new all-time low.

When it comes to gameplay, Ubisoft's open-world adventure shines thanks to its exceptional player freedom. Players can sneak through restricted areas, hack cameras and security systems, deploy drones or simply go in with guns blazing. Many objectives can even be completed entirely from a distance, encouraging creative problem-solving throughout the campaign. In addition to the main story, the game offers numerous side missions, races, co-op operations and PvP modes. One particularly distinctive feature is the progression system: instead of earning traditional experience points, DedSec gains new followers, unlocking additional abilities and hacking tools along the way.

German gaming magazine GameStar awarded Watch Dogs 2 a score of 85 out of 100, praising its versatile hacking mechanics, high degree of player freedom, atmospheric recreation of San Francisco and varied mission design. According to the review, the game's biggest weakness is its relatively straightforward story. The editorial team also felt that many of the characters rely too heavily on clichés and that parts of the humor feel somewhat forced.

The Steam community has also responded positively, with 82% of more than 97,000 user reviews recommending the game. On Metacritic, Watch Dogs 2 holds a Metascore of 82 and a user score of 7.5. However, the game is rated Unsupported on Steam Deck (currently available on Amazon for $720).
