RPGs often plunge players into dark fantasy worlds filled with danger and mystery. This is the case with Shadows: Awakening, a game developed by Games Farm and published by Kalypso Media on August 31, 2018.

In this game, which features a main campaign lasting between 20 and 30 hours, you take on the role of the Devourer, a demon from the Shadow Realm who must devour the souls of fallen heroes from the mortal world. Your goal is to stop a major threat or let this world fall into darkness. Thus, each of your decisions will have serious consequences.

But to achieve this, you can switch between different characters. Indeed, you have the ability to absorb the souls of warriors, mages, or thieves and use their abilities in real-time tactical battles against enemies and bosses. In total, 14 characters with their own skills, stories, and fighting styles are available.

Throughout your quest, you’ll need to solve puzzles that will transport you to dungeons, villages, and forests full of mysteries. However, to win each battle, you can also collect equipment and upgrade it with a crafting system.

Since its release, Shadows: Awakening has received 2,467 reviews on Steam, and 75% of them are positive. On Metacritic, it has a Metascore of 77 and a user score of only 6.9. Many players compare it to Diablo and highlight its dark fantasy universe, its exploration, and the ability to switch between the two worlds depending on the situation. However, some people feel that it is not very challenging and have also reported several bugs that prevent them from progressing.
