In Svarog's Dream, death is not the end. Instead, your soul returns to the underworld, finds a new body and continues the adventure. The unusual open-world RPG is available on Steam with a 70% discount until July 19, reducing the price to $6.30.

At first glance, Svarog's Dream looks like a fairly traditional action RPG. Players explore a fantasy world inspired by Slavic mythology from an isometric perspective, complete more than 100 handcrafted quests and gradually become more powerful over time. Variety comes from 12 classes that can be freely combined, allowing for a wide range of character builds – from heavily armored battlemages to archers accompanied by animal companions.

The game's most distinctive mechanic, however, only comes into play after death. As a wandering soul, players never truly die. Instead, they return to the underworld and search for a new body to inhabit. That body does not simply belong to another person – it comes with its own attributes, unique traits and sometimes even personal goals. While the soul's level is retained, body-specific attributes may be lost, and players are free to redistribute their abilities. Meanwhile, the previous character's equipment remains on their corpse and must be recovered. Every death therefore becomes both a setback and an opportunity to reshape your build.

Another unique feature is the interaction with the god of death. If players visit the underworld too often, Veles may punish them by sending them back into the world as a wolf, a boar or another animal. The werewolf form is particularly powerful, even allowing players to gather an entire pack around them. Villagers, however, are far less enthusiastic about the furry transformation and usually respond by drawing their weapons.

The quirky action RPG has been very well received on Steam, where 90% of more than 800 user reviews are positive. Players especially praise its unusual world, reincarnation system, flexible character-building options and atmospheric setting. The game's dated user interface, occasionally punishing early game and somewhat rough overall presentation, which is accompanied by various minor technical issues, receive a less enthusiastic response.

70% off on Steam

Svarog's Dream normally sells for $21 on Steam, but a 70% discount lowers the price to $6.30 until July 19. According to SteamDB, this is the standard discount the game has recently received, most recently during the Steam Summer Sale. On Steam Deck (currently available on Amazon for $720), the action RPG from VI Game Forge is officially rated as Playable. The community, however, is even more optimistic. On ProtonDB, Svarog's Dream has earned a Platinum rating, indicating that it should run on SteamOS with few, if any, issues.
