Call of Duty: Black Ops PS5 refunds issued by PlayStation Store after multiplayer hacks

Despite strong sales, complaints about the Call of Duty: Black Ops PS5 ports are mounting. Already facing criticism for a high price, a recent server hack led to more disgruntled supporters. The problems have prompted some buyers to ask for PlayStation Store refunds.
Are the complaints justified?
Pristine-Return-671 is one of several Redditors who successfully submitted requests. The gamer argued that cheaters have made it difficult to enjoy multiplayer modes. Nefarious individuals exploited modded servers to gain XP. Meanwhile, innocent players had their levels reduced to negative numbers.
Even those who avoided losing XP groaned as hackers connecting and disconnecting interrupted matches. In response, Activision updated servers after temporarily disabling playlists. Still, given that the PS3 versions suffered the same issues, security is a concern for the Call of Duty: Black Ops PS5 ports.
Aside from exploits, the Black Ops multiplayer experience has been rocky for many combatants. It can be challenging to join a match with friends, and disconnects are common. Once the action starts, input lag may disrupt the timing of movements and attacks. Pristine-Return-671 cited these frustrations before the PlayStation Store agreed to a refund.
PS Store guidelines
Other buyers failed to convince customer support that the issues are game-breaking. Compared to Steam and competing digital marketplaces, Sony’s rules are strict. Customers have 14 days to open a ticket, but downloading or playing a purchase voids a refund.
Another Redditor, slim-davies, recommends being persistent. The poster pestered agents until they returned the original payment for Call of Duty: Black Ops 1. Luck is a factor, but the company must be convinced that a title is unplayable. Initially problem-plagued PS5 games like Crimson Desert and Starfield also produced success stories.
Some players have called on Sony to revise its PlayStation Store refund policy. Physical games are often easier to return to retailers, even after accumulating playtime. However, following the move away from discs in early 2028, that will become less of an option.
