Dying Light: The Beast canceled for PS4 and Xbox One, players to get refund

Techland has officially canceled Dying Light: The Beast for the PS4 and Xbox One, ending plans to bring the zombie action game to last-gen consoles nearly 10 months following its successful launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The studio made the decision upon realizing the "technical realities" of development, explaining that the older consoles would not be able to deliver the open world, visuals, combat and parkour experience without significant compromises.
As Techland states, Dying Light: The Beast was designed from the ground up to take advantage of current-generation hardware, with its graphics engine requiring processing power and memory not available on PS4 and Xbox One. Rather than releasing a downgraded version, the developer opted to cancel the ports altogether. The move marks another sign that major studios are increasingly shifting their focus away from aging consoles in favor of newer platforms.
Players affected by the cancellation will not be left empty-handed. Techland further confirms in the same post that anyone who pre-ordered or was expecting the PS4 or Xbox One version will be eligible for a refund (but does specify whether this will be a full or partial refund), including owners of Dying Light 2 on PS4 who were promised access through eligible editions. Support for the current-generation versions of Dying Light: The Beast will continue as planned, with no changes to future updates or post-launch content.
