Techland’s Dying Light: The Beast, in a remarkable post-launch surge, has broken sales expectations by shipping more than one million units on Steam alone and surpassing 1.5 million sales across all platforms, according to the latest insights from Alinea Analytics.
Alinea Analytics' Rhys Elliott broke this news on the platform’s newsletter. Techland had touted a million pre-orders of Dying Light: The Beast ahead of its release, but that figure also consisted of owners of Dying Light 2’s Ultimate Edition, who are supposed to get The Beast for free for no additional cost, as a part of the studio’s post-launch commitments.
Further data from Steam indicates that the majority of the player base consists of returning players from the original Dying Light and its sequel, Dying Light 2: Stay Human. Around 82% of The Beast’s Steam players have logged time on Dying Light, and roughly 77% of players have tried out Dying Light 2.
Dying Light: The Beast has proven itself to be a successful, yet more grounded and horrifying experience, akin to the original Dying Light title, featuring over 20 hours of single-player content and approximately 20 to 30 hours of side quests and additional content.
The Beast has garnered some favorable reviews, averaging an 84 on Metacritic for PC, being praised for its atmospheric gameplay and improved co-op implementations. On Steam, the game has a Very Positive user score of 87.12% out of 26,597 reviews. The Beast had an all-time peak of 121,222 players on September 21, and still averages a daily 80,000 concurrent players.
Dominating Steam’s charts, Dying Light: The Beast has claimed the top spot in weekly sales for the period ending in September 23, 2025, pretty much outpacing other competitors that followed similar release windows, like Gearbox’s Borderlands 4, which launched earlier this month and secured second place by adding 300,000 units last week, culminating in a total two million copies sold since debut.
Hollow Knight: Silksong rounded out the podium at third place with over 250,000 additional sales, compounding over its existing five million units.
The Beast has seen a decent post-launch surge in sales and player counts by giving players a grittier, darker, and more eerie Dying Light experience, packed with some incredible Easter Eggs and Treasure Hunts across Castor Woods.
