Techland delivers an unexpected gift - Dying Light: The Beast now launches September 18, which is a full day ahead of its previously announced September 19 date. The Polish developer made this surprise announcement after the zombie survival game crossed the impressive milestone of one million pre-orders.
"We've heard you, we've seen the passion, and together we've already reached an incredible milestone," Techland stated in their press release. Franchise Director Tymon Smektała expressed his excitement, saying, "Seeing the excitement from our community for the return of Kyle Crane in Dying Light: The Beast, and knowing the game is ready, we wanted to do something special for our players".
The early release comes as a nice surprise, as the title faced development challenges earlier this year. Originally scheduled for August 22, 2025, The Beast was delayed to September following positive preview coverage that highlighted areas needing refinement. Techland used those extra weeks to address "balance tweaks, UI, quality of physics," as well as improvements to cutscenes and player animations.
For longtime fans, The Beast is special as it sees the return of Kyle Crane, the protagonist from the original 2015 game. After years of speculation about Crane's fate following the ambiguous endings of Dying Light and its The Following expansion, The Beast reveals he survived but endured 13 years of horrific experimentation by a mysterious antagonist known as the Baron.
Dying Light: The Beast launch details and rewards
The Beast launches simultaneously across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S at specific times worldwide. In the US, players can jump in at 9 AM PDT on the West Coast and 12 PM EDT on the East Coast. The game promises a 20-hour main campaign with 40-60 hours of content for completionists.
The developer also revealed the exact release time of the game across the globe. Here's a quick look at it -
Techland sweetened the deal for early supporters by announcing an exclusive reward for all pre-order customers, though details remain under wraps until launch week. Additionally, owners of Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition will receive The Beast at no additional cost – a generous gesture since the expansion-turned-standalone game originally began as the long-awaited "Story DLC 2" for the sequel.
