Xbox Game Pass subscribers recently received four new titles. Unless Microsoft surprises fans with an unannounced drop, things are set to stay quiet for a while, with new additions likely returning around October 7. One more release is lined up before then, though: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light arrives on September 30. First launched in 2010, this spin-off of the iconic archaeologist’s adventures makes for a fitting way to close out the month.
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is an isometric action-adventure that combines classic Tomb Raider elements with fast-paced, arcade-style co-op gameplay. Players step into the roles of Lara Croft or the Mayan warrior Totec as they face the demon Xolotl, who has returned after centuries to threaten the world. Lara relies on her agility and firepower, while Totec can hurl spears to create platforms or use his shield to help Lara cross gaps. In solo play, you can freely switch between the two characters to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles.
The gameplay in Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light mixes puzzles, combat and platforming. Battles play out in real time, often with waves of enemies keeping the action intense. Players can also discover collectible artifacts and upgrades that boost abilities and add replay value. The game has been well received on Steam, with 91% positive reviews from over 4,500 users. On Metacritic, it holds a solid Metascore of 85 and a User Score of 8.1.
What’s coming next
Microsoft has also announced that Sopa: Tale of the Stolen Potato will join Game Pass as a Day One release on October 7. This narrative adventure invites players to explore a magical world inspired by Latin American culture. In addition, three new titles will be added on October 1 for Xbox Game Pass Core, the budget-friendly tier priced at around $10 that provides access to a curated library of about 25 games.
