The Win 5 is GPD's latest attempt at creating a Windows gaming handheld modelled on PlayStation Vita. Ultimately, the GPD Win 5 is much larger than any PlayStation Vita, with 267 x 111 x 24.21 mm dimensions and a 940 g weight with its external battery attached. Likewise, the GPD Win 5 is noticeably bigger than the GPD Win 4, which GPD now offers with AMD's Strix Point architecture (curr. $1,489 on Amazon).
The added bulk has allowed GPD to add significantly more powerful APUs than those found in the GPD Win 4, though. At launch, the Win 5 can be configured with the Ryzen AI Max 385 or Ryzen AI Max+ 395, which feature Radeon 8050S and Radeon 8060S iGPUs, respectively. According to our benchmarks, little separates the two APUs in CPU-heavy tasks. Conversely, the Radeon 8060S pulls away from the Radeon 8050S by around 20% in GPU benchmarks and games.
With that being said, the Radeon 8050S wipes the floor with the Radeon 780M and Radeon 890M found in many popular gaming handhelds. Additionally, all GPD Win 5 SKUs ship with a 7-inch, 1080p and 120 Hz IPS display, as well as an M.2 2280 slot, USB 4, a Mini SSD slot and Hall effect triggers.
As has been well-documented, GPD includes an 80 Wh external battery pack with all orders. Not only can additional batteries be purchased for $93 apiece, but the Win 5 can also be powered directly from a mains outlet via USB4 or its proprietary 180 W charging connector. In the process, this drops the handheld's weight to a more reasonable 590 g.
The GPD Win 5 starts at $1,448 with a Ryzen AI Max 385, 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage on Indiegogo. Alternatively, GPD offers the handheld in two Ryzen AI Max+ 395 SKUs with 32 GB or 64 GB of RAM for approximately $1,650 and $2,120, respectively. Sadly, a 128 GB RAM SKU is not available for the time being. GPD hopes to begin shipping to Indiegogo backers in November 2025.
