The Mangmi Air X finally has a global release date, just as Anbernic has got the more expensive but comparable RG476H out the door. Incidentally, Ayaneo has hinted that the similarly priced Pocket AIR Mini will be available soon, too.
To recap, over two months have passed since Mangmi confirmed that it would be offering the Air X outside China. Previously, the company had indicated that the Air X would be available by mid-September. With that period having now come to an end, Mangmi has confirmed that Air X global pre-orders will actually open on October 15.
Moreover, the company has clarified that the handheld's promotional period will run until October 21, during which Mangmi will discount the Air X from $89.99 to $79.99 with a branded carry case thrown in for good measure. Additionally, one can grab a $5 coupon code by signing up to Mangmi's website.
According to our benchmarks, the Air X theoretically trails the Pocket AIR Mini and RG476H (curr. $199 on Amazon) thanks to its Snapdragon 662 chipset. Qualcomm's superior driver support may close that performance gap slightly; neither of these rivals are as large as the Air X, though. As we have discussed separately, the Air X also features a 5.5-inch and 1080p IPS display, a 5,000 mAh battery and Hall effect controls. Please see Mangmi's website for more details.
