Switch 2 gamers may pay less for Resident Evil Requiem than their PlayStation and Xbox counterparts. The handheld port will feature lower resolution graphics, but offer similar gameplay. Nintendo fans have become accustomed to paying near full price for many third-party Switch 2 games.

The Nintendo Switch 2 console has avoided the retail price increases of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Still, discounts on games can be rare, and accessories have suffered price hikes. To provide some small relief to Nintendo gamers, Resident Evil Requiem could be less expensive than other versions.

Noticed by Gamingbible, buyers reported the surprising news when Amazon UK listed the survival horror game for pre-order. On the Switch 2, buyers can reserve the Capcom title for £60, while PlayStation 5 and Xbox owners must set aside £70. It's uncertain what PC gamers will have to pay ahead of the February 27th Resident Evil Requiem release date.

Despite improvements, the Switch 2 specs can't match the graphical prowess of current-gen consoles. The handheld iteration of the game will still use the proprietary RE Engine. However, gamers can expect a lower internal resolution of 600p upscaled by DLSS. Comparison videos show that the Switch 2 holds its own, but falls short of the detail level on other systems.

Reduced visual fidelity hasn't prevented publishers from charging full price for other Switch 2 ports. Most recently, Madden NFL 26 launched at a $69.99 price point, matching the cost of the football title on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Third-party Switch 2 games, like the Star Wars Outlaws Gold Edition, have been priced at $59.99. Still, most of these titles had already been available on other platforms.

The financial challenges of Nintendo gaming

Any savings are welcome for gamers, especially after the latest Nintendo Direct didn't announce any bargains. The new Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 compilation is $70, even with the original 3D platformer part of the 2020 Super Mario 3D All-Stars

Resident Evil Requiem isn't the only Capcom survival horror game headed to the Switch 2. Resident Evil: Biohazard Gold Edition and Resident Evil Village Gold Edition will also be available on February 27th. Pre-order listings or prices haven't surfaced yet. Even so, they should produce better performance than the cloud versions available on the Switch.
