2026 looks like a banner year for third-party Switch 2 games. Capcom will play a large part in bolstering the handheld’s library. One focus appears to be its popular horror franchise, with the Resident Evil Requiem release date set for February 27th. According to leaker NateTheHate2, remakes for Resident Evil 2, 3, and possibly 4 may arrive before the year ends.
Looking to build on his excellent track record, the insider revealed unannounced titles during a recent podcast. Nintendo fans can expect several Resident Evil remakes already available on other platforms to surface.
With Requiem, Switch 2 gamers can opt for the Generation Pack, which includes Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village Gold Editions. However, in Japan, PS5 gamers can purchase Vol. 2 in special packaging, shipping in late February. The 30th anniversary bundle consists of the Z versions of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, as well as Resident Evil 4.
RE Engine support on the Switch 2
NateTheHate2 thinks it’s inevitable that the titles in the Japanese collection come to Nintendo’s system. He anticipates that 2nd, 3rd, and 4th mainline entries in the series would enjoy strong sales and “suit handheld mode very well”. They will also likely boast ray tracing and a high refresh mode to match the Xbox Series X and PS5 versions.
Currently, the RE2 and RE3 remakes are only accessible via cloud gaming on the Switch. Thanks to boosted Switch 2 specs, Capcom’s RE engine can operate on the newer console without streaming. With Requiem, initial hands-on demos produced positive reactions for smooth performance.
Beyond Resident Evil games, Capcom has other plans to expand its presence on the Switch 2. Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection and Pragmata will arrive in March and April. It’s also rumored that a port for the resource-hungry Monster Hunter Wilds is in development. Suffering from dwindling sales, a handheld option could cater to an overlooked audience.
