Resident Evil 7 port could be coming to the Switch 2

Another third-party title seems to be in the works for the Nintendo Switch 2. If the latest leaks are accurate, Resident Evil 7 could be coming to the handheld with an announcement at the rumored Direct event later this week (September 12). This would be a natively running port of the game since there is already a cloud version available for both the Switch and the Switch 2.

The information comes from Attack the Backlog and Nash Weedle on XCancel. The former posted that Capcom is going to showcase a horror game during the upcoming Direct event. Nash Weedle replied to the post with, “All I Can Say Is That If You Get This, Stay Away!” This is a reference to the intro of Resident Evil 7 which shows a video recording sent by Mia Winters to her husband, the protagonist, Ethan.

Notably, Resident Evil 7 can already be played on both the Switch and the Switch 2 but it is only available via cloud streaming so it may not be the best experience for everyone. While you don’t need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to play cloud games, they do require a constant stable internet connection which isn’t possible on the go.

There are several Resident Evil games already available on the Switch and this could be a gateway for Resident Evil 8, another title available via cloud gaming. Capcom has the next and latest instalment already underway and scheduled to release in February next year. It will come out on the current-gen hardware but is rumored to release on the PS4 as well, which means it could also be ported to the Switch 2.

Recent rumors have suggested that Nintendo is going to host a Direct event on September 12 so we could get an announcement for Resident Evil 7, though the company has not shared any information about the event yet.
