Resident Evil fans would be happy to know that new gameplay footage of Resident Evil Requiem has surfaced online following its short initial Gamescom tease on Opening Night Live on August 19, 2025.
The video, available on FamitsuTube’s YouTube channel and initially shared by Genki_JPN, showcases the main protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, in an intense pursuit sequence. This gameplay footage was released after fans expressed disappointment over the limited gameplay shown in the Gamescom trailer, which focused more on atmospheric build-up rather than raw gameplay.
In the trailer, Grace is seen investigating the dilapidated remains of the Wrenwood Hotel, while fleeing from a massive female monster through dark and decrepit hallways. Grace can be seen wielding only a lighter to navigate the darkness.
The protagonist rushes in a state of panic, attempting to escape the creature in what appears to be a scripted sequence. The enemy materializes in front of her, or busts through doors to keep the tension going.
Potentially further building up tension, the enemy can be seen biting Grace, keeping players in a state of constant alert, akin to how Mr. X, Nemesis, or members of the Baker family were implemented in Resident Evil 7. The creature finally ends its chase as soon as Grace enters a well-lit room, suggesting an aversion to light, which means these areas act as safe zones.
At the end of the gameplay footage, Grace enters a room splattered in blood, where she vaults over a table and retrieves a toolbox containing a screwdriver, supposedly, a piece of a puzzle to progress through the game’s story.
Leveraging cues from the leaks so far, speculation is rife that the creature pursuing Grace is none other than Alyssa Ashcroft, Grace’s mother, who died eight years before the events of Resident Evil Requiem and served as a playable journalist in the PS2 spin-off title, Resident Evil Outbreak.
Alyssa’s suggested transformation into a monster is shrouded in mystery as Grace explores the Wrenwood Hotel and uncovers the mystery behind her mother’s death.
Resident Evil Requiem is slated to release on February 27, 2026, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC via Steam. Gamescom attendees have so far described the hands-on demo as one of the “most chilling” Resident Evil experiences to date.
