Since the announcement of its release date, set for February 27, 2026, Resident Evil Requiem has been the subject of constant speculation among fans. Some are eagerly awaiting Leon's return, while others have been speculating about the identity of the hooded figure. But faced with these numerous rumors, the game's directors decided to end it.
This mysterious individual can be seen in the game's first trailer. And while many people thought it was the merchant from Resident Evil 4, Koshi Nakanishi and Masata Kumazawa recently spoke to TheGamer at the Tokyo Game Show, and Kumazawa later clarified this point:
"Sometimes I talk to people and they act as if various speculation and rumours are just already a confirmed thing, and then they start talking on that basis.”
Regarding the mysterious hooded figure, he decided to put an end to all the rumors circulating on the internet:
"Everyone is convinced it has to be a reveal of a returning cast member, and there is speculation that it ‘must be this person or must be that person’. But we don't always want to just lean on surprise comebacks like these. The hooded person is a new character, we will confirm that much. In this case, it's a newly created character for this storyline, so it's a bit of a previously undisclosed detail, but hopefully it contextualises how we’re approaching the game's story.”
Therefore, we should not expect the return of several characters who appeared in previous games. This could also make Resident Evil Requiem more accessible to new players, who will not be lost in the story.
