The Resident Evil games released on PS1 left a lasting impression on millions of players around the world. This was due to many factors, such as an unparalleled atmosphere with unique graphics and gameplay. But while many fans were hoping for a re-release of these original titles, Capcom seemed uninterested and cited several reasons to justify this decision.
Thus, GOG contacted the Japanese company about this, and convincing Capcom was a major challenge. It must be said that the latest remakes have been hugely successful, as Marcin Paczynski points out:
"That was actually their main counter argument when we were trying to bring back the classic games. They were like, 'Okay, we have all of those remakes. It's already the superior experience.' So they didn't really see the value in bringing back the classical versions, the vanilla ones.”
However, the work eventually paid off, as the original versions are now available, and Paczynski adds this on the subject:
"It took a lot of convincing that, 'Hey, guys, there is an audience that has a lot of memories about those games, and they would love to be able to experience exactly the same game again. So thankfully we were able to convince them. They trust us into working on one of their biggest IPs, if not the biggest.”
In addition, the original versions of Resident Evil were extremely well received, with many positive reviews for all games on GOG. This proves that fans still love the old games and want to rediscover an atmosphere that has now disappeared from major titles.
