Samsung has confirmed that it will hold a global online event on October 21 to announce its first Android XR headset, currently known as Project Moohan, and early reservations are now open with a $100 Samsung Credit incentive. The event, titled Worlds Wide Open, will stream on Samsung’s YouTube channel and will introduce what the company describes as the next phase of its mobile AI strategy built in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm. Samsung says the headset aims to bring what it calls “immersive, everyday experiences” through Android XR, a new platform that has been optimized for spatial computing from the start.
The Samsung credit is limited to accessories and other Samsung products rather than the headset itself, suggesting that the headset could attract a premium price that may restrict early adoption unless paired with some incentives. Several reports, including from South Korea, have pointed to a potential launch price above $1800, placing Project Moohan in the same market tier as Apple’s Vision Pro rather than Meta’s more affordable Quest line.
Although Samsung has not published specifications, several leaks indicate that the headset may ship with dual 4K micro OLED displays rated at 4032 pixels per inch, the Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 chipset, and support for hand, eye, and voice tracking through multiple onboard cameras. The headset is said to weigh around 545 grams and provide roughly two hours of battery life for mixed use, with support for an external USB-C battery pack to extend runtime.
The headset is also rumored to run Android XR, a completely new branch of Android tailored for extended reality, which Google has developed with Samsung as its lead hardware partner. Samsung will present the headset on October 21 at 10 pm Eastern Time, and preorders are expected to begin immediately after the livestream.
